Has anyone ever had a drive axle in their front wheel drive go bad,if yah have what were the symptoms on it?

I have had CV joints go but not the actual axle..

All I know is that when the CV is gone you will hear the mechanical clanking especially when turning..

my buick would make a poping and cluncking noise when it went bad... same thing when one went bad on my olds... its like the shafts binding or them 1" ball bearins in there were able to turn inside the housing that was suppose to be holding them in place...
